After purchasing, your piece will be marked as sold, and you'll be able to pick it up at Bocanova between 10/14 - 11/3 during business hours (make sure to have your proof of payment!)
Serving Dishes
These twelve handmade wheel-thrown dishes, collaboratively designed by artist Gina Johnson-Geiger and Bocanova owners Martin Ladera and Chef Rick Hackett, each feature an unglazed exterior highlighting the raw texture of the clay, and enhancing the tactile experience. In contrast, the interior is glazed with a simple white glaze, perfect for serving food. Ideal for both everyday use and special occasions, this dish is a perfect blend of functionality and artistry.

Embrace the Moon, 2024

Inspired by Chinese Moon Flasks or ‘Bao Yue Ping’ 抱月瓶, ‘Bao Yue’ means to embrace the moon. The arched handles create an “embrace” between a circular body and cylindrical neck, a reminder to hug your loved ones. Handbuilt with Cajalco clay & glazed.

Quetzalcoatl
A mix of wheel throwing, hand building, and underglazing brought this Quetzalcoatl to life. Originally meant to be a beige planter, this god of creation couldn’t be stopped until the beige pot plans were history and he was born.
Dish-continuity
Wheelthrown ceramics are born of continuous processes like rotation. Here, I’m exploring how those sweeping curves, swirling brushstrokes, and flowing glazes can add to the piece even as they are interrupted, leaving their mark in the carved interior and blush exterior

Resist and Reveal
This hand-thrown and altered clay piece features a surface design created using tape resist techniques, then raku fired for a striking effect. The raku firing resulted in a rich blue metallic finish, contrasted by unglazed areas where the tape was applied.

Night Mountain
This piece was thrown on the potters wheel, then altered and torn to create a ragged mountain-like rim. Glazed sideways to create drips, it was then raku-fired- a fast paced intense firing technique!

Nerikomi Picado
I always loved papel picado (the colorful chopped paper banners traditional to Mexico), but I could never even cut a snowflake into paper so I decided to make one out of clay instead. Mason stained porcelain on white porcelain.
In Bloom
In Bloom was hand thrown and then cut and altered to give the appearance of opening up in the same way that flowers open to the morning light.
